Nonviolence and Non-Appropriation

These declarations are offered as peaceful civic instruments.

They must not be appropriated by any party, faction, campaign, organization, ideology, or movement seeking domination over others.

They must not be used to justify violence, intimidation, threats, harassment, coercion, dehumanization, or unlawful action.

They must not be used to deny the rights, dignity, safety, or equal humanity of any person or people.

Their purpose is to restore public accountability, civic responsibility, constitutional fidelity, truth, human dignity, peace, and the future of life.

Any use of these declarations contrary to those purposes is a misuse of them.

The power of a people’s declaration lies not in force, but in conscience.

Not in domination, but in witness.

Not in violence, but in the peaceful courage of people willing to stand together in public truth.
