Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 4, 2026

Civic Independence is an independent, nonpartisan, citizen-initiated civic project.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, stored, and shared through civicindependence.com.

Civic Independence seeks to collect as little personal information as reasonably necessary to operate the website, receive individual civic affirmations, maintain the Public Record, respond to requests, and protect the integrity of the project.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use the Add Your Name form, you may provide:

  • Your name;

  • The declaration or declarations you choose to affirm;

  • Your public-display preference;

  • General location information, if you choose to provide it;

  • An optional email address;

  • Your confirmation that you are participating freely, peacefully, in your own name, and only once.

When you contact Civic Independence, you may provide your name, email address, and the contents of your message.

Email is optional for civic affirmation. When provided, it may be used only to send a confirmation or to help process a request to correct, remove, or change a signature display preference.

Information Collected Through Website Operation

This website is hosted and operated through Wix. Like most websites, Wix may process limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the site, such as browser type, device information, IP address, pages visited, and cookies or similar technologies.

Civic Independence does not use visitor information for advertising, behavioral profiling, commercial marketing, fundraising, or political targeting.

How Information Is Used

Information may be used only to:

  • Receive and process civic affirmations;

  • Maintain the Public Record of Civic Affirmation;

  • Honor a participant’s selected public-display preference;

  • Respond to correction, removal, or display-change requests;

  • Review submissions for duplication, fraud, abuse, automation, or inconsistency with the participation terms;

  • Respond to contact messages;

  • Operate, secure, and improve the website;

  • Meet legal obligations or protect the safety and integrity of the project.

Public Record and Display Preferences

A person who adds their name may choose whether their affirmation is displayed publicly.

Only the information selected for public display may appear in the Public Record. Depending on the display preference selected, this may include a name and general location.

Email addresses, private form information, and contact messages are not displayed publicly.

Civic Independence may review submissions before they are displayed or counted publicly. Submissions may be declined, corrected, combined, or removed when they appear duplicative, fraudulent, abusive, automated, inconsistent with the participation terms, or otherwise unsuitable for the Public Record.

Civic Independence does not sell, rent, trade, or license personal information.

Civic Independence does not share personal information with political parties, campaigns, donor networks, advertisers, commercial marketers, or unrelated organizations.
